Improving the Gujarat education system and promoting the right to education in Gujarat is a goal that both the Cambridge Partnership and the GSHEB share. Together, the two groups have now signed a Memorandum which will strengthen  the education system in Gujarat through education reform projects.

What will the Memorandum do for Gujarat’s education system?

The Memorandum enables exploration of possibilities for collaboration throughout the education system in Gujarat, around the development of curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning resources and teacher training. Part of this is in reference to the Excellence Curriculum, an element of Gujarat's Mission Schools of Excellence initiative.

Mission Schools of Excellence initiative: promoting the right to education in Gujarat

The Mission Schools of Excellence initiative aims to promote the right to education in Gujarat, providing high-quality education to children and young people by transforming current schooling and learning. The overall mission aims to improve learning outcomes in over 20,000 government schools, and will cover about 80% of the students who are part of the education system in Gujarat.

Supported by the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the programme includes converting existing residential schools into 'Residential Schools of Excellence'. These schools will help to reduce barriers for students from less affluent backgrounds - supporting the right to access a high-quality education in Gujarat. The Gujarat Education Department hopes the schools will welcome over one million learners, spread across all 250 state districts.

How can the Cambridge Partnership support Gujarat’s education reform?

Cambridge Partnership for Education brings together expertise from the publishing and assessment businesses and departments of the University of Cambridge, and will apply this to support the effective transformation of Gujarati education, impacting students across the state.

Among this knowledge, the Partnership is experienced in supporting specialised government schools programmes, having recently worked with partners in Egypt, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It additionally draws on insights from other business units within Cambridge, such as Cambridge International.
