In fabricating structures on the surface of the earth the engineer and designer must always keep one eye on the elements. On land or sea the wind is the primary agent that affects the stability and safety of the structure. The problems that can arise range from the safety of the pedestrian caught in a wind vortex in a shopping precinct to the maintenance of communication links through the stability of high masts or long span bridges. A conference to discuss the effects of wind began to be held every four years since 1963. This 1976 book, contains a wide range of papers and discussions which describe developments in the areas of meteorology, aerodynamics and structural engineering directed towards the effects of wind on buildings and structures.
