Meet Kara Alampay, our Global Environment Coordinator based in our office in Manila.

Five questions with Kara Alampay, Global Environment Coordinator

Kara is responsible for supporting the delivery of our environmental targets, managing our network of International Sustainability Representatives, and carbon data collection.

She joined Cambridge University Press & Assessment after graduating from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Environmental Science with a Minor in Sustainability.

Kara answers five questions about her role, working at Cambridge and her current projects.

What led you to your current role?

I've always loved the natural sciences. Climate change has heavily disrupted the balance of nature, but because I know I've been part of that problem, I want to somehow be part of the solution.

What big projects are you currently working on?

The Carbon Literacy course we are developing for Cambridge University Press & Assessment in partnership with the Carbon Literacy Project, has been the most challenging but fulfilling project I've worked on so far. It's a climate science course aimed at empowering participants to take action in their personal and professional lives. I'm excited to launch it because I've met so many colleagues who are eager to learn about our environmental targets and what they can do to help.

What’s one thing about the environment that you wish people knew?

When addressing climate change, we also need to address climate injustice. Although we have to work together, statistics are showing that the effects of climate change have a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable communities, who are the least responsible for their causes and often lack the resources to mitigate its effects.

What’s the best thing about being part of Cambridge?

Definitely being surrounded by colleagues who have not only been kind but who have encouraged me to grow in my role and learn more about my field. The passion, inclusivity, and enthusiasm in the organisation are infectious!

How does being part of a global organisation impact your role?

It's a reminder that I need to approach everything with a global mindset because not all solutions will work for everyone's context. It's been amazing to meet such a diverse network of people because I'm constantly exposed to new cultures and perspectives.

Are you ready to pursue your potential?

Being part of Cambridge University Press & Assessment means being part a vibrant global community that’s helping millions of people around the world and shaping the future of global education.
