Turbulence and Random Processes in Fluid Mechanics

The main aim of this book is to give its readers a background in fluid flow turbulence and related areas that will enable them to follow the literature of the subject and understand current research results. The authors stress fundamental concepts and basic methods and approaches, while attempting to introduce some recent ideas they believe will prove important to future work in turbulence. This book departs from conventional treatments of the subject as it stresses the dynamics of processes that participate in creating and maintaining turbulent flows, including stability, wave motion, and coherent structures. Although not covered in detail, the standard equilibrium turbulent flows, such as channel flow, boundary layers, and convection between two parallel plates are also described.
