The section was started to offer classroom instructors and their students as well as other interested problemists, a set of problems -solved or unsolved - illustrating various applications of mathematics. Most of the problems include motivational material describing how the problem arose; the solutions, some of which approach the status of short papers, are accessible to a wide audience (say at the level of the American Mathematical Monthly).
