The Little Library Life Skills Kit (along with the Literacy and Numeracy Kits) was initially developed to respond to a need for high quality, indigenous books for the younger members of our communities. After ten years successful use in schools, the kits have now been revised to meet the changing needs of learners, schools and the new education policies. The Life Skills Kit focuses on promoting life skills to learners of five to nine years of age, as stated in the National Curriculum Statement. I'm a lot like you deals mainly with the issues around HIV and touches on AIDS too. The focus is on a young child who is living with HIV. We see how similar her life is to that of her friends.

Overview

Ek is baie soos jy' is the story of a young child who is living with HIV. The story shows that the young girl loves to do all of the normal things that children like to do, but that she has to be careful in some instances, because she has a virus in her blood. Most learners will have heard of HIV/AIDS and need to know how it is not caught, along with the fact that it is a fatal illness. The story presents this to learners in a manageable way.

  •  This book forms part of the highly successful Little Library Life Skills Kit.
  • Responds to the need for high quality, indigenous material with a local context.
  •  Focuses on NCS requirements in the area of Life Orientation, but can also be successfully integrated with other Learning Programmes at the same level.
