Regional winners for global teacher appreciation award announced
Six regional winners have been announced in the 2022 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards
Cambridge University Press has announced six regional winners in its 2022 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards – a global competition that recognises and celebrates teachers around the world.
The educational publisher saw an outpouring of heartfelt thanks for teachers, receiving 7,060 nominations from 113 countries. A public vote is now open to decide who wins the overall award. The vote will close on 6 May and the winner will be announced in late May. Vote for the winner at dedicatedteacher.cambridge.org/vote.
The regional winners are: Noemi Falcon – Zora Neale Hurston Elementary School, United States; Uroosa Imran – Beaconhouse School System KG-1 branch, Pakistan; Temitope Adewuyi – Fountain Heights Secondary School, Nigeria; Khalifa Affnan – Keningau Vocational College, Malaysia; Jeenath Akther – Chittagong Grammar School, Bangladesh; and Dr. Mary Shiny Ponparambil Paul – Little Flower English school, Italy.
This year’s awards highlighted the extraordinary efforts of teachers to continue their students’ learning, even when schools were closed.
“I want to congratulate our inspiring regional winners and say a big thank you to all teachers around the world for ensuring that learning continues to flourish,” commented Publishing Director for Education at Cambridge University Press, Matthew Walker.
“We are living in an age of truly rapid change. The world today, especially in the education sphere, looks and works differently than it did even two and a half years ago. It is therefore incredibly difficult to predict what the world in 20 years will look like. Reading through the nominations this year however, it’s clear that if there was anyone capable of preparing students for this unknown future – to teach what it means to be adaptable, creative and resilient – it is the special people who choose to become teachers.”
A panel of expert judges selected the six regional winners from a shortlist of 60, based on whether nominations met the awards criteria. Among the criteria, the judges looked at whether a teacher demonstrated innovative lesson ideas, provided fantastic pastoral care or inspired students beyond school.
The final six teachers will receive a host of prizes, including class sets of books or digital resources. They will also feature on a thank you page at the front of every new Cambridge University Press Education textbook from February 2023.
Last year, the 2021 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards saw Annamma Lucy from GEMS Our Own English High School, Sharjah – Boys' Branch, UAE announced the winner. Annamma was nominated for her desire to mould students into well-rounded, global citizens.
