Meet the authors

Herbert Puchta

Herbert Puchta holds a PhD in ELT Pedagogy, was Professor of English at the Teacher Training University in Graz, Austria, and is a well-known plenary speaker at numerous international conferences. He was also President of IATEFL, the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

For more than three decades, Herbert has done research into the practical application of findings from cognitive psychology and brain research to the teaching of English as a foreign language. Herbert has written numerous course books as well as articles and resource books.

His latest resource books are Activities for Very Young Learners and 101 Tips for Teaching Teenagers. His most recent course books are Super Minds 2nd edition for primary students, Think 2nd edition for teens, and Empower 2nd edition for adults and young adults, all published by Cambridge University Press.

Jeff Stranks

Jeff Stranks has worked in ELT for more than four decades, as a teacher, teacher trainer and now materials writer. He is a co-author of titles such as English in Mind, Think, Citizen Z and Empower with Cambridge University Press, and has also published in other countries. He has been based in Brazil since 1991, and now lives in Brasilia.

Peter Lewis-Jones

Peter Lewis-Jones is a freelance author who has been involved in EFL since 1993. After stints abroad teaching in Italy, Egypt, Indonesia and Brazil, he returned to the UK in 2006 to concentrate on writing. He now lives on the North Wales border with his family. In his spare time, he can be found bird watching somewhere on the Wirral.

He is co-author on a number of Cambridge EFL titles including English in Mind, MORE!, Super Minds and Think.

Thinking beyond language

Think 2nd edition offers a holistic approach to learning, giving students not only the language, but also the skills they need for future success beyond the classroom.

The reading texts, writing, and listening scripts are carefully chosen to reflect teenage interests, with inspiring and thought-provoking topics throughout, including music, films, TV and important global issues. Train to Think sections and Me and My World features encourage students to reflect on the topics presented and to express their opinions on meaningful issues, as well as requiring them to work together to achieve consensus or to solve a problem.

Culture sections introduce interesting topics and information about people and places around the world, sparking discussion that requires students to make use of the information presented.
