Optical Solitons
This book describes both theoretical and experimental aspects of optical soliton generation and of soliton properties. The basic theory of soliton generation in fiber is described, numerical studies of nonlinear propagation effects in fibers are considered, as well as soliton-soliton interactions, the effects of high order dispersion and birefringence on soliton propagation as well as limiting effects of femtosecond soliton generation. Technical aspects are concerned with long distance transmission systems and the implementation of high bit rate semiconductor laser based soliton systems in association with erbium doped fiber amplifiers. In addition, simple experimental schemes for soliton sources are described, while theoretical and experimental aspects of dark soliton production are included.
- Provides overview of our current understanding of optical soliton properties
- Reviews recent literature
- In Cambridge Studies in Modern Optics
Reviews & endorsements
"...does an excellent job in bringing newcomers to the field up-to-date and at the same time it provides a comprehensive reference to those who have already had some exposure to optical fibre solitons." Izo Abram, Physics World
"The list of authors reads like a 'Who's Who' in the field of solitons in optical fibers. Most of the articles are written in a tutorial fashion, making the book suitable for both novices and experienced researchers in photonics....is a useful book for every researcher in photonics." Anjan K. Ghosh, Optics and Photonics News
