This is the third lecture in the series of William and Mary Lectures, which was inaugurated in 1993 to keep alive memories of the Glorious Revolution of 1688, and to contribute to the favourable development of relations between Britain and The Netherlands. The inaugural lecture was given by Ruud Lubbers, and the second by John Major. In this lecture, Alexander Rinnooy Kan describes the legacy of the Glorious Revolution for the political and economic relationship between Great Britain and The Netherlands. The two countries are found to be united by their passion for freedom, a passion which was responsible for the Glorious Revolution in 1688, and which Dr Rinnooy Kan sees as remaining very much alive today.

    • Prestigious speaker on the British-Dutch political and economic relationship
    • Stimulating view of Europe from a Dutch perspective
    • Slightly more interesting than John Major's lecture
